I’m debating a shift knob for the Miata, specifically something from Raceseng:

What shifter knobs are y'all using? Any recommendations? Not looking for a ball, something I can grip from the side.

I had Flameball make me an 8 ball shift knob with an automatic button. I then modified it to work in smarts. As of present, I’m the only one that knows how to make custom shift knobs work in US spec smarts.

T hose are nice looking. I have an unadorned textured black knob like this one. Days like today (hot as h*ck) are brutal because it makes shifting painful! Otherwise though, the simple nature of it is very comfortable and it looks clean with that texture.

I used to have a ski pole handle. That was fun.

not mine, but same thing
hurst t handle, on top of a 4 speed v gate shifter, with the separate reverse lever..... the reverse has a purple pearl knob(goes with the color of the car)
the one for my next project is going to be one of these.....
the old dodge style hurst pistol grip shifter......

In4 answers. I’ve been thinking about a new know too. Between it and the shifter surround I get sun reflections in my eye too often. Silver isn’t the best idea for interior trim, in a convertible.

Damn. Not sure it's what I'm looking for but some of those are stunning

As a biomedical engineer who used to work with medical devices, that'd actually be pretty appropriate

I wish they were heavier. My one complaint. But I’ve gone to the dark side and am 100% only using spheres from now on.
My next knob being built....

None. I drive automatics.
(not my pics)
Fintail just has a white knob:
W212 just has a button at the end of the stalk, no knob:

I’m still rocking the stock unit, but I kind of want this one for the C5...
As for the Cube, the stock knob isn’t threaded. You can just pull really hard and it will come off...and then you’ll have stripped the plastic bits holding it on and it will never go on properly again. So I’ve never even considered changing out the OEM piece.

Err, if you already know about Raceseng, then what is there to even think about? Just buy it already :-P
I went with Ashiko because it is the heaviest, and my car is heavy enough to take it (4250lbs when I weighed it at Mission Raceway). Also, I thought the angular shape works well with my car’s “ Arts and Science” exterior.
As for finish, I ponied up a bit more for Texture Graphite, because my car has the Suede Package and I thought it would match fairly well with the stock
shift knob it replaces. And so it does.
Installed:
I’ll write my own post about it soon.

Let me buy your old one. I bought the genuine Mazda leather insert for a Miata knob thinking I could replace the rubber/plastic on mine, only to find out that mine doesn’t disassemble like the fancier ones - oops...

I’ve got a World Rally Championship steel ball shift knob that a friend gave me in university as a gift that I’ve had on every one of my cars. It is suitably patina’d from my hand using it for the past 10 years. :)
Conveniently, I’ve owned a Subaru and a Hyundai, so it still makes sense to have it on my car! :P

Depending on the mood and weather, I’ll alternate between the OEM knob, a Mazdaspeed knob, and my wooden OEM 5-speed knob. I actually have two wooden ones because the first one I bought was so mint I bought a less-than-mint version to daily. My only complaint is that the wooden OEM knob and the Mazdaspeed knob are a few grams lighter than the stock rubber/vinyl knob. I’m still trying to source a knob from a Mazdaspeed Protege and I’m waiting for a seller on eBay to drop the price on a rare-ish carbon fiber Mazdaspeed knob .
That said, I caution the use of aluminum knobs because they burn like a mo-fo when you’re out in the sun. One of the moderators on the Miata.net forums, Rich Velardo, does custom-made knobs out of a variety of woods and knob styles . Here’s a link to his main selling tread: https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=601212

That looks gorgeous. Worth the money then, I'm guessing?

I'm definitely want something heavier. I rebuilt the shifter, but it's still a little notchy. But some of these are !assive, and expensive to get just to see it's not what I'm looking for. That eba y one is perfectly shaped for me.

That would suit a c5 well, i think!

If you score the eBay knob, then weigh it and let me know! It’s a JDM knob and I’ve seen them in CF and wooden flavors.

I took the heavy “zhp” 6-speed knob off my wife’s X3 when we sold it and put it on my E46 (5-speed). I love the feel of a heavier, shorter knob than stock, especially with the longer throw. I just keep having trouble getting it into 6th.....
